Nodar Jvania (Georgia)
Nodar Jvania was born 26th March 1945 in Tbilisi, Georgia where he studied violin and viola at the College of Music. He returned to become Lecturer in Viola at the same College before being awarded a full Professorship in Moscow in 1987 when he was appointed Professor of Viola at the University of Music in Tbilisi a post he held until 1993. Nodar Jvania is the viola in the famous Georgian State String Quartet which has been active as an international ensemble for more than 33 years. The Quartet won the International Quartet Competition in Budapest in 1973. Besides numerous concerts in the USA, England, Germany, Sweden, Finland and other European countries he has also made many award winning CD and LP recordings for Sony Classical, Melodiya and following a hughly acclaimed concert tour with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta in 1998 following which, he made this recording of the Mozart Concertante with Richard Studt for Guild Music. Jvania has played with some of the world's leading musicians including Liana Issakadze, Natalia Guttman, Eliso Wirsaladze, Lisa Leonskaja, Franz Hauk, Alfredo Ibarra and many others as soloists and in ensemble.
