Konrad Maria Engel (Germany)
After teaching at music universities in Hanover and Bremen, Konrad Maria Engel was called to Berlin in 2016, were he now lives and works as a professor for piano at „Hanns Eisler“ university and head of department at special music school „Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach“.
A few years ago he has chosen to reduce his activities as a concert soloist, chamber musician and conductor to a minimum and rather focused on teaching and pedagogical aspects.
Konrad Engel played concerts in the US, across Asia and throughout Europe. His recitals at renowned concert halls and festivals as well as his appearance with several famous orchestras were highly applauded by the musical press.
His studies were characterized by the intensive work together with Prof. K.-H. Kämmerling. After his pedagogical and artistic diplomas he received the highest degree as a soloist concert performer with distinction at the Hanover university of music in 2006. Many international masterclasses completed his artistic education, such as the Wilhelm-Kempff-Academy in Positano with Prof. John O’Conor.
During theses years he won numerous prices at international competitions, was awarded twice by the German Music Council (piano solo and chamber music) and supported by the national concert agency.
In his sparse free time Konrad Engel is interested in several contrasting subjects, e.g astronomy and technology, especially in any aspect of historic transportation. His motto actually couldn‘t be described better than in Hanns Eisler‘s words:
„Who seeks to understand only music, won’t understand music at all.“
