Prof. Dalia Balsytė (Lithuania)
The pianist Dalia Balsyte has been head of the Chamber Music Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre since 2008. She has been a member of the Senate and head of the Senate Art Commission of the Academy since 2011. She is artistic director of the European chamber Music Academy, and actively involved in the European Chamber Music Teachers Association. She has won awards for her educational and artistic achievements from the Lithuanian Parliament, President Valdas Adamkus, and the government of Lithuania. She graduated in 1972 from the M. K. ČiurlionisSchool of the Arts, and in 1977 from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she studied piano under Olga Šteinberg and chamber music under Kornelija Kalinauskaitė. From 1980 to 1983, she studied at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow with Tatyana Gaidamovich and Alexander Bonduriansky.
She has performed solo with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and with various different chamber ensembles. She was the initiator of the International Lithuanian Composers Chamber Music Performance Competition in 1999, and still organises it. She has been teaching at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre since 1979, becoming a professor in 2008.
Dalia Balsytė has been a member of the panel of judges of several national and international competitions. She has given chamber music master classes at universities in Europe.
Stasys Vainiūnas
Stasys Vainiūnas is famous for his work both as pianist and composer. He is numbered among Lithuanian composers belonging to Balys Dvarionas‘ and Antanas Račiūnas‘ generation, which composed their major works in the period of sweeping historical change and dramatic events.
